The Fourth and Final Judging of The IPPA Photographer of the year 2011 took place last monday evening at The Red Cow Moran Hotel. There was over 736 images judged across 16 categories. Photographer assaulted.

Photographer Jenny Matthews was assaulted by Dundalk man Dermot McArdle while on assignment to take his photograph on 9th January 2010.
In 2008 McArdle was convicted by a Spanish court of the manslaughter of his wife, Kelly-Ann Corcoran. Mrs Corcoran died following a fall from a hotel balcony in 2000.

Street photographer Tommie Lehane won the recent "Dublin Loves Drama" photography competition. The winning photograph, taken in Clontarf during the summer, like many great street photographs has an interesting juxtaposition of elements within the image. The Studio featured in the photograph is that of internationally renowned Dublin photographer Mark Nixon.

Photographer John Harrison dies

John Harrison, a popular press photographer who was awarded an MBE for his work, has died aged 50. Many tributes have been paid to John, who was based in Belfast, including one from Northern Ireland's Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness who said the photographer was "quite simply a one-off in every way".
