First Holy Communion Portrait Package and a Little Gift…

January is out now out of the way (phew!) and we’re heading rapidly towards Spring and First Holy Communion season!

At Corin Bishop Photography we have always done a great portrait package offer for first Holy Communion and we’ll be doing the same this year. However if you read to the end of this blog post you’ll find details of a little gift that can save you a little bit more!

Our First Holy Communion Package is a mini-portrait session taking portraits of the family, godparents, siblings and the Communion child.
You get one 10″x8″ Print and two 8″x6″ Prints.
There are further offers on framed portraits and montages.

Please note, you don’t have to get your portrait taken on the day of the Holy Communion! You can book it anytime (good excuse to get dressed up again!).

Sleep Apnea

This week I photographed a simple but revolutionary piece of equipment called the HoseBuddy to accompany a respiratory machine for suffers of sleep apnea.

The client was Muse Creative on behalf of Medicare, an Irish owned company that provides products and services to hospitals and the home care market.

The brief was to photograph the user, comfortable while using the product. To show the HoseBuddy in use along with the breathing apparatus .

In the Advertising Photography industry one gets to learn about so many different areas of business.

Sleep apnea (AP-ne-ah) is a common disorder in which you have one or more pauses in breathing or shallow breaths while you sleep.

Breathing pauses can last from a few seconds to minutes. They often occur 5 to30 times or more an hour. Typically, normal breathing then starts again, sometimes with a loud snort or choking sound.

Sleep apnea usually is a chronic (ongoing) condition that disrupts your sleep. You often move out of deep sleep and into light sleep when your breathing pauses or becomes shallow.

This results in poor sleep quality that makes you tired during the day. Sleep apnea is one of the leading causes of excessive daytime sleepiness.

ENGAGEMENT SHOOT

With a few days of nice, dry, sunny weather promised, Ronan & Lisa were able to do their eshoot with just a days notice….and thankfully we cancelled a couple of other tries early in January…just look at the light, it was certainly worth waiting for! It was the kind of light that just kept getting better and better throughout the shoot. At this time of year, with the sun still low in the sky, late afternoon is the time to score this kind of light, but in the summer it’s much later in the evening, but is just as nice.

This was shot in Culleenamore beach near Strandhill, and it was cold, very cold! But well worth it, and these guys were superb to shoot, completely relaxed from the start, and I’m already looking forward to their wedding in March.

Helena Connolly – Album Launch

Morning All, remember we posted some images back in late summer '11 of Helena Connolly? Well tonight is the big launch at the INEC Killarney.

We're super excited for her and to have contributed to the album "The Reason Why" by shooting the cover image. The album was produced locally by Brendan O'Connor in Faha at Little Dylan Studios.

You may even recognise some other artists who were involved in the production, Kieran Healy and The O'Connor Brothers & Finbarr Ahern to name a few.

So we would encourage anyone in the area to head out to the INEC tonight to support her and experience the wonderful music.

We will be there shooting it live, so see you there.

Portrait Of A President

Last weekend the Haven Haiti Gala Ball was held in the Four Seasons Hotel Dublin.

I was taking photographs of the evening on behalf of The Haven Partnership.

They do amazing work building houses for all the people affected by the terrible earthquake.

The President of Haiti Michel Maretelly was attending so I took the opportunity of taking a portrait of him.

It was a very successful night , lots of money raised for a very good cause.

my parents visit ireland

Usually January is a pretty slow time. This year my parents surprised us with a visit from the States to our home in Ireland. It’s been around 5 years since they last were here, and they were keen to spend some time with the kids since they last saw them in the summer. We hung out at home a lot, but also made a few trips to historical sights like Trim Castle above (was used for some scenes in the movie Braveheart). And also to see the 8th century Celtic High Crosses nearby in Castledermot, County Kildare. Grandma even brought some little castles for the kids to make from Lowe’s. This summer, it’s our turn to visit in sunny warm Pennsylvania and Colorado.

Transitions: Your Child’s Confirmation

Your child’s Confirmation day certainly isn’t as big a day as their First Communion but it is not less important as a milestone in their lives.

In fact in many respects it is more significant because it coincides with a major transition in their lives: the move to senior school.

Now my kids aren’t there yet – this is all ahead of them – but I’m assured that things change considerably once they move on from National School. It’s not just that they are teenagers, their peer group is now exclusively other teenagers. It’s a time of change and many challenges.

What I have seen is that kids in 6th class still behave like kids in front of the camera. They don’t yet wear that protective shell of self-conciousness that many teenagers grow. They are open, relaxed, comfortable in themselves and photographs taken for their confirmation have a unique blend of confidence and innocence.

So although your child’s confirmation is probably going to be a low-key event compared to their communion, that doesn’t mean that it should go unmarked. You may not be planning a large family get-together, a bouncy castle and a big party, but think about getting photographs taken professionally.

There are a number of things you might consider:

Sessions are available at the Gallery on the day of the Confirmation. There’s no charge for the session, it takes about 10 minutes and you’ll get a range of studio images with the rest of the family
If you’re going on to a Hotel or Restaurant after Mass then I can meet you there.
I can come to your home either before you leave or if you’re celebrating at home afterwards.
We can arrange a session on another date if that suits better. This allows a more flexible and relaxed session with a wider range of images possible.

Generally there is more availability for confirmations because they are weekdays and schools don’t coincide but some dates are very busy for sessions. So contact us now to discuss your child’s confirmation and let us capture it in a unique way.

Fenit Lighthouse

Arrived just in time for this scene,it was just turning to dusk,light levels were not great anyway and the storm behind the lighthouse was about 5 minutes away because the wind was so strong conditions were moving and changing quickly. I think I was able to get around 5 frames at different focal lenghts before it all changed again. This was all with the 5D MK11 and the 24 mm lens.

Another new year, another new long list of happy Bride and Grooms to be organising and planning the most memorable day of their lives. Thanks to Keith for asking me to do some guest articles on his blog, so I shall be writing each month about various topics in the beauty side of things. So to briefly introduce myself, I am Dawn of Glamour By Dawn and I am makeup artist in all fields but specialise is Bridal and consider it my passion and love! I am based in Kilkenny but being a Cork native I also travel down and back an awful lot so have the pleasure of not only having South East Brides but also lovely Munster ladies too. I have also had the pleasure of working on weddings with Keith and have always been incredibly in awe of his beautiful wedding photography. So when he asked me to feature in his blog, I could not resist! Indeed if there is anything that you would like to see on the Glamour By Dawn blog, all ideas are welcome – my aim is to provide an informative read for those in the midst of planning their big day. But I hope to write about Spring /Summer makeup, tools of the trade, dos and don’ts, different bridal looks, nails etc. Makeup plays a huge part in the Brides big day. It is the one day that she gets photographed the most, the one day where she will feel the most fabulous that she will ever feel, and the one day that she will want to look back on in her pictures in years to come and remember what it felt like that day.
