I have recently attended a workshop with him during the Photography Ireland Festival, and felt that it was extremely educational and I learnt a lot about the topic on the day – studio photography. Unlike many photography course I have attended, the tutors usually cover only the basics and very vague about the important points, Michael actually explained things in great details and hands-on showed us what exactly needs to be done in order to achieve the effect.

So when I learnt that he is going to host the oncoming photography courses, I decided to email members of our group, “The Dublin Amateur Photographer Meetup Group” (http://www.meetup.com/Dublinamateurphotographer/) . I strongly believe that the courses will be of very useful to improve your photography skills and broaden your knowledge in photography.

Hi Louise, you don’t need to in a club or a professional. Just go to the peoples photography website http://www.peoples-photography.com/ and download application sheet, it just costs €25 for the two days, really good fun

It’s a terrible state of affairs alright. Unfortunately they seem to be getting away with it otherwise they wouldn’t be doing it. Sadly, if it is boycotted all that will happen is that photographers who are less informed (and therefore less experienced) will fill the gap. This would only further devalue our craft.

There are e few ways of countering this. Firstly, prominently watermark all images. There’s no stipulation about watermarks in the T & Cs. It can be costrued that any ‘free’ image would of course be watermarked. Alternatively, might even be a worthwile marketing exersize to sacrifice one or two images. No more than one or two images, mind you!

Secondly, there’s no stipulation as to the amount of photographs you have to submit. Submit two of your least saleable two images.

Thirdly, the date for the submission of the CDs is well after the event. You could always agree to submit the photos and then just not send them. Are they going to sue all the photographers that do this? Are they going to keep a list on file of all defaulting photographers?

What a fantastic interview Alan, big congrats on getting this first-hand account, and congratulations to Kate Geraghty for doing such an amazing job under such conditions. Her p1. pic on the Irish Times Weekend section last week of the commandos apporoaching the Mavi Marmara sent chills down my back. This is what great photojournalism is all about. I hope your interview gets aired further.
