Real Wedding – Aideen and Rob

No more sneak peaks. I promise. From now on it’s full wedding posts. Okay? You have my word. Well, not until the next time anyway.
So then, to kick things off we have the wedding of Aideen and Rob. Aideen and Rob are what I now refer to as – The ice-cream couple. A few of you may remember the ice-cream shots from a while back. I remember I couldn’t wait to get home from the wedding that evening because I was looking forward to seeing the pictures from that day so much!

Shooting this wedding was just a dream. From the moment I arrived at Aideen’s that morning I just had a feeling it was going to be a good day. The weather was fantastic and everyone was in great form. Some houses can be very quite on the morning of a wedding – it’s to be expected with that little bit of nervous tension in the air.
Aideen’s was far from it with music in the background, a steady flow of people coming in and out as the girls were getting their makeup on, lots of banter and then of course the champagne was popped and the needle on the fun dial rose that little bit higher.

All day Aideen and Rob played the perfect wedding couple. They wanted a truly candid approach so knew not to play up to the camera too much but when the time came for it they weren’t shy either.

After the ceremony and ice cream scoffing we headed straight to the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire - not just the reception venue but the place were Rob set this day in motion by asking Aideen that famous question.
We had that perfect evening sun as it started to fall to the horizon and cast long shadows across the lawn as Aideen and Rob took their little stroll while I snapped away from a distance. I’m telling you, they could be wedding models (if there is such a thing).

When they rejoined their guests I went into the dinning room to take a sneak peak of the cake and the table settings. It was a gorgeous big room with tons of light with it’s floor to ceiling windows along two sides of the room. The table were decorated with little goodie bags filled with retro sweets like Refreshers, Parma Violets and Black Jacks.

The ‘cake’ was a a beautiful arrangement of the most perfect cupcakes topped with chewy sweets. Left over sweets were dotted all over the cake table. I have to confess right now – the table had less sweets on it when I left than it had before before I arrived… Look at it! How could I resist!?

Once guests filled the room Aideen and Rob had a few minutes to relax again in each others company. I always wonder what couples say to each other during these brief moments “Incredible day. You look amazing” – “Yeah, it’s the best day ever… Ahhh.. you look pretty good yourself”. In all fairness it’s probably “Jeeez I’m starvin…” – “Did you not have any of the nibbles?” – “I didn’t want to ruin my meal… jeez I could eat a horse. Wonder if we could we get a bag of those sweets off one of the tables?”.
Nah… now that I look at these pictures before I’m sure it’s the more romantic conversation.

“If that goes in my face, the rest are going in yours!” Aideen give Rob what for! I love it when couples have a bit of fun with the cake!

First dances, I’ve seen them all. Awkward. Glitzy. Amazingly reheashed and preformed to perfection. But sometimes there is just the simple slow dance where the couple just stare into each others eyes, exchange a few words, a kiss and a hug. There’ll be plenty of time for all the other stuff later.
Congratulations Aideen and Rob – you guys were a total dream to photograph and a joy to meet up with again. Sorry it took me so long to get this up – If it wasn’t for all those blasted sneak peaks!
