Canon Spring Collection 2010

Canon Cameras were available to test at the Spring Launch

Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Canon Spring Collection in the Halo Restaurant in the Morrison Hotel, Dublin.

With a selection of new products available for the audience to review it was a pleasant evening.  A couple of messages I took from the evening:

  • Camera manufacturers are committed to R&D – it helps them sell more cameras.
  • Examples of these innovations are improved metering and autofocus technology, the rapid development of digital and now the increasing inclusion of HD video technology in their cameras.
  • These advances in technology have had and will continue to have, profound effects on our industry – challenging photographers in many ways.

Photographers need to honestly examine how these technological changes will impact on their lives – I know of some in the Irish market, Kim Haughton for example, who have explored the new opportunities that the technology brings. Of course there will always be a place for the still image but we live in exciting and challenging times and the very best will explore all avenues for expression. Don’t sit and moan about the good old days – Jump on board and enjoy the journey – wherever it takes you!
