For some he was a photographer of Dublin street scenes in the 1960s; for others he was a pioneering photo-journalist, documenting the depths of Irish poverty in the 1970s. For others he was a remarkable portraitist, capturing notable Irish figures throughout the 1980s, work that was complemented by his extensive documentation of all major productions in the Abbey Theatre from 1970 to 1995. For others still, he was an extraordinary landscape photographer, his images of Connemara and the Irish countryside becoming enduring classics.
